We can use the skills of technology that we have gained to benefit others. For instance, my church has a prayerline. It provides immediate access to have others praying for you in emergency situations. It also provides "Praise Reports" which is uplifting when you see God answering those prayers,

Technology was created by the use of the
ReplyDelete“talents” that we have. Since technology is so user friendly, almost any of us can use existing technology such as computers, cell phones, cameras to create great things. For instance, when Haiti was hit with the huge earthquake, people utilized their “talents” and invented a new, faster way to donate to the relief fund. They enabled people to send donations through text message that would later be charged on their phone statement. This, I believe, is what was meant by making an investment in talents; it is being able to pool whatever skills you have and put it to use. Others in this same relief effort used their skill in medical technology to provide relief.
people's talents created the technology that we have today. their knowledge and expertise has created what we all use today. the more talent that people decide to share in the world the better off we will be since we all have individual talents that can benefit others. when the recent flooding occured in nashville, people reponsded and offered help by using twitter and other social networking sites. it is amazing the fantastic God inspired things we can do with technology.
ReplyDeleteI relate the money given to each servant by their master to the talents given to us by God. We can play it safe, hoarding our talent and not utilizing it at all, or we can go out into the world and do something world-changing with our talents. I think of the people who invented lifesaving medical technologies - what if they had been afraid to take a risk and kept their talents and ideas close to the vest? What if Bill Gates had been afraid to introduce his Windows OS technology? Think of how much better off we are with these examples of technology.

Technology can indeed be an attempt to gain power over God. That,at least, is the implication of the story of the Tower of Babel. With their new technology, brick building, the people of Babel attempted to build a tower reaching to the heavens. If you can do that with
ReplyDeletebricks, mere hardware, what can you do with computers, our contemporary magic wand?

ReplyDeleteI think the answer to this relies heavily on what you use the technolgy for. You can spend countless hours on meaningless surfing of the internet, or too much time playing games on the computer, or watching your DVR... Or, you can use the technological tools to ENHANCE the gifts that you've been given.
ReplyDeleteYou can use the internet to reach out to others and grow relationships, and even lead people toward God through blogs and emails and chat sites; You can seek others for fellowship; you can advertise your special skills or talents for others to take note of. The sky is the limit. I think God gives us tools, and it's up to us to figure out what they are and how to use them. Today's technology is like the file that sharpens our tools.
Like everything we do in our life technology is another test from God of our faith. We may have come up with great new idea’s and tools that help us in our daily lives but if anyone of us think that God did not have his hand in this technology they are making a big mistake. 12 “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and sprit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from Gods sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:12-13). Carl Hronek BSM0164-ADM-316-A.
ReplyDeleteThis question makes me think of how my church uses the internet to reach others. My church posts the services on the web so you can "attend" even if you can't make it. We also do online giving so you can tithe. There is also a place on the site that lets you send e-vites to invite friends and family to services. I think this has allowed us to reach other people more easily. Technology has allowed our church to grow through the use of the internet allowing us to reach more people then we could without this technology. It is just up to us to decide how to use the technology God has allowed us to have.
ReplyDelete-Heather Smead :)
As I compare technology to relating to God word, I think of the technology we have in place todey that allows us to share all of GOd word with those who are unable to attend, need a prayer line, teach Bible studies, and allow us to communciate with each in a way that is pleasing to God. We have the capability to deliver video sermon to homes of those who can not make it to church due to health reasons, we have the ability to expand and use our talents to support God word using technology, and we are blessed with the ability to continue to espand technology to meet the needs of spreading His word.
ReplyDeleteDorina
I think we can use technology to bring the current church up to date with the world we live in. My church has moved along with the times. We have a website that has a volunteer calender, online giving, and even previous sermons that can be viewed to reference. When the church moves with technology it help with bringing youth in. Most of these teenagers want to stay up to date with personal devices and wireless connections. They should be able to access the church and other Christians with this technology.

To me this is class is also a form of God's technology in good use. I love that devotions are part of our class and that we have an outlet for prayer requests.

I believe we can benefit by learning new tecnologies to help teach the word of God. By learning new avenues to commminucate with other people, we can help to influence and shape their lives by giving them information and hope in their faith with God. God speaks to everyone in mysterous ways and who knows that maybe someone does not like reading the Bible to recieve God's word, but will read other people's posts on a blog about Christianity or talk to people about Christ in a chat room. I believe God is giving us the ablitity to learn new technologies to speak his word to others.
ReplyDeleteMary Humphrey
God has continually changed to what his people needed. When the Israelites came out of Egypt they need a strict set of rules. Then it changed to kings and then prophets. God continues to change so, me changing and learning new technologies is not a problem. The investment of bettering our self through the word and learning new skills will give us the hope we need for the future.
ReplyDeletePaul Conley
Technology wasn't invented to be negative. Like most things in the world technology can be used for good and evil. This is totally dependent on the user and the choices the user makes. I feel some examples of how we can use technology for the advancement of our Christian faith would be through the internet. A church could create a Facebook page with all the members on it. They could post blogs of encouragement and faith as a daily devotional. The church could get e-mail addresses of visitors to invite them to church again. You can use technology to post surmons on the internet.
ReplyDeleteJosh McMahan BSM-0169 ADM-316-A
I think we can relate God's word to learning new technologies by having faith in ourselves. A lot of time we get discouraged trying to learn new things, but if we have faith in ourselves we can excel in anything we put our minds to. As we get older, we tend to get stuck in our ways and it's harder for us to have an open mind when learning new things. The bible talks about if we have faith as small as a mustard seed then we can move mountains. Therefore, if we have faith in ourselves we can do all things through Christ.
ReplyDeleteKelly Shelton-ADM316
Today's technology offers so many venues to getting God's Word out now. You can have devotionals sent directly to your email address, you can listen to many christian radio programs online, and even do Bible studies as well on the internet. The internet alone can reach invalids and shut-ins who were once unable to be a part of a church or Bible study group. Today's technology will only assit in preaching God's word so that all will know of His love for them.
ReplyDeleteKMiller - ADM 316
The way we can relate God’s Word to making an investment with technology is by using it as another vessel of knowledge about God. There are now plenty of websites about the bible (Bible.com), in addition to the Churches that now have websites of their own. Also, technology can be a wonderful tool because if a person misses Church, they are still able to watch a sermon on You Tube or the Church’s website.

Matt Hunter ADM316 comment above was mine I forgot to put my name.
ReplyDeleteHow can we relate God's Word to making an investment with technology?
ReplyDeleteWe can relate God's word to making an investment with technology by being led by God and making sure our steps are ordered. The Bible say's too much is given much is required. When you are dealing with an investment with technology it's best to give back. God gives to us and increases our finances to help each other. We have to give back. We all have gifts and if we are using the gifts God gave us that the best thing we can do to please.
Technology can be a terrific aid in sharing God's word, however ther is a danger in that as well. If we as Christians can use this technology as service to God and his kingdom the other religions of this world have the same oppurtunity. I am not so certain that the advances in todays information network are going to put any one religion above the other. Now were the word can be shared more easily this also means it can be shared without education or any for of guidance, and I do not know about you but some of the stuff in old testament would scare me into hiding from reliogon entirely if I had no idea what it meant.
ReplyDeleteGod's word is the conduit that allows us access to life changing information. When we are connected to "source' of power for our life, which is the "God breathed" scriptures, we activate our faith, and learn by application. I like to use the anaology of technology also being the conduit or the connection to those who are unsaved and do not know the Lord, as well as a way for those of faith to access resources to strengthen their faith walk. The TBN Gospel Network is an excellent example of how an investment in technology allows God's word to reach the world. The use of Broadcasting, internet, and satellite technologies have made a significant impact in our ability to share our faith.
ReplyDeleteLearning new technologies and investing the time and effort that it takes to understand them, can be beneficial to our growth in Christ. It may take much perseverance - just like our daily spiritual growth - but the outcome will yield a greater knowledge. With this knowledge we can do more in the name of Christ. We would be remiss if we did not take advantage of all the technology that is available to spread the gospel and disciple believers. If Paul had been given access to e-mail he would have taken full advantage of it, I'm sure. God has left us on this planet so that we can do all we can and be all we can for him. This includes the time we can invest in utilizing the most modern of technologies. it is like the parable of the talents that Jesus shared - God has left us with a job - are we using all of the resources we can?
ReplyDeleteScripture instructs us to depend on God through Jesus Christ. Rejoice in the grace given by His suffering, we can persevere. To some of us, technology may be one of those trials, but it is so trivial compared to what our Lord endured. Just like His Word, we learn more about Him as we study. Technology can also expand our mind to see and learn what God has for us. Using video, the internet and other forms of technology we can explore new ways to learn. We can learn more about technology as we use it and discovery its applications.
ReplyDeleteLearning new technology is learning about God, the more you more you learn the more knowledeabe you become. If you know how to access technology the more your mind is open to new things. The more you access God and His power, the more your faith and trust in Him increases. For me, use of the internet has brought me joy and peace. I have easy access to spiritual readings and music I would not have had access to if not for technology.
ReplyDeleteWith learning new technologies we have to follow Gods Word and “rejoice in our sufferings”. New technologies are not something that a lot of us pick up on the first try, we have to try, try and try some more (persevere). While we might become frustrated and want to quit we also know that by persevering we will become a better world, that technologies are created to enable us to be more effective and efficient as a society. “Suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope”, it is hope that helps us to persevere. New technological advancement allows us to learn more and make huge breakthroughs. For example, without the technological advancement of creating new medicines we would still have polio, leprosy, and other diseases that medicines have cured.
ReplyDeleteJami Forster
As technology has become increasingly important to society this means they are spending less time reading their Bibles. So with this in mind we need to merge their obsession with computer with the passion of God’s Word.
ReplyDeleteWhen Paul wrote Romans, this letter was to convey the message of salvation. Technology can be the avenue to deliver the same message. Technology can establish a way that can reach so many more people than ever before. We now have churches websites set up for discipleship and social networking. With Podcast it is easy to listen to sermons anytime.
Another great way to reach and connect is by high tech services. Complex sound, lighting and video material can keep people motivated. It is the most essential place for churches to learn to stay connected with a technology-driven culture. -Lorrie Peterson
I think we can relate God’s Word to making an investment in technology because we can use more creative ways to spread God’s Word. The internet can be an amazing tool to share God’s word. You can spark interest in someone who doesn’t know Christ through different social networking sites. There is also YouTube and different sites like Tangle.com that let people share videos of sermons or worship.
ReplyDeleteAllyson Cotrel
We can be sure that the future of technology is promising. With that in mind, we should take what we know about technology and utilize it as a way to spread the gospel and further God's work. There are several informative sites that give biblical information and where we can research information concerning the books of the bible. We could use the internet as a way to do more bible study. Also, we can create webpages as a form of outreach, introducing our churches and religion to the entire world. There are several ways that we can correlate the advances in technology with the vision and mission of God.
ReplyDeleteI think that technology has played a major role in almost everyones lives. Some Churches are using technology to the fullest extent to reach out to people. They are using video, sound equipment, modern music, and even having satellite churches where the message is broadcasted. I think this is making an investment in technology to use it for God. I also think that we must stay focused on God's word and not get carried away with worldy things.
ReplyDeleteGod's Word is telling us that hope is a wonderful thing. I totally agree with this. Many people need hope with new technologies; especially with medicine. There are so many breakthroughs in medical technology that people have either been cured or have lived a better life because of it. People should not fear new advances in technology, but embrace it. I wish there would have been more of an advance in cancer research back in 1989, when my mom passed away from it. God has blessed individuals with the patience, knowledge, and perspective to create and improve technologies for the good of mankind.
ReplyDeleteI think it means that we should not settle for what works right now, we should always try to be prepared for the future events. We should take technology to remain perfect. To continously be changing and striving for excellence. Sue Cary
ReplyDeleteGod created us within His own image and gave us the ability to follow His path for us; however, he also created that little thing called "Free Will". We choose to follow the path that we select, whether it be that we strive to become the "best person" that we can be, or we waste the God-given talents that have been bestowed to us.
ReplyDeleteBy using our brain power and skills to their full potential, we may glorify God in all that we do. When I consider how we can relate God's Word to learning new technologies, I think of the advancements that we can make in this world in regards to using perseverance, character, and hope. Striving toward medical advancements and cure for diseases, such as cancer, is but one avenue of advancement in technology that can assist in healing God's people.
Then there is consideration of our true calling as Christians, it comes to mind how technology now-a-days could be a route of reaching those that are lost. Of being the "light and salt" that God calls each of us to be, to bring as many of His children to Him as possible. Spreading God's Word and showing His love could be approached by using technology, especially with the youth generation of today. For example, many youth leaders in this technologically driven time utilize FaceBook to connect with the young people of their church. Another specific example is the fact that my daughters get text messages from the youth leader at church as reminders of special dates and activities for the youth. Technology can clearly be put to action for the glory of His Kingdom!
Incidentally, if you have a FaceBook account, check out the Christian Comedian, David Dean. He is from my hometown, Huntington, and is a wonderful example of how technology can bring Christians together...and attract those who may not already be close to God to seek His Word. One of his themes, "Satan Stinks", has been a popular statement among the youth today. Definitely worth checking out!

"How can we relate God's Word to learning new technologies?" by Carmen Gutierrez
ReplyDeleteI believe that with the new technologies which are evolving all around us, we can grow as our individual skills in their use grow. We can use these exciting technologies to further our knowledge and add more value to our existance. When we do this, we are doing what God intended for us to do with our lives; to do the most that we can with what He has blessed us with and be the best that we can be.
This devotion is telling me to open my mind to new things. Learn everything that I can possible learn. God has given us everything with no regrets. He has shown us ways to learn new avenues. Technology changes everyday even every minute. As long as we keep in mind that we can keep up with the new, we will never fall behind. Do not get discouraged about the new technologies. Learning new technologies should be exciting. Technology opens our minds to new things. It keeps our minds young and healthy. The more you know the more valuable you are in life.

ReplyDeleteI am having a difficult time relating this week's devotion to technology. The devotion is telling me to have faith and hope, and that through my mistakes and problems I will learn and become stronger. I will build character through all the challenges and I will survive. I keep remembering what my dad would say to me as a kid. Get up, learn from it, and move on. Life is a challenge sometimes, and it does not get easier as we get older. You become stronger and wiser, but the challenges have been never ending for me. Through all this I have become a strong person. Sometimes, I think, I want someone to look out for me and help me along. God does that...I suppose I could relate challenges of my husband's medical problems with technology. He has a serious health issue, and the new technology that they have now has provided him with new medicines that appear to be helping him. I can have faith and hope in the new medical technologies being developed, as I have faith and hope in God.
We can relate His word to learning about new technologies by trusting in Him. The the faith that we have will lead us to understand that it is through His grace that the technology even exists. Consider my story for an example. Before coming to school at IWU, I wouldn't have considered myself very religious. However, as other students and staff members reference Bible passages such as the one in this week's devotion it leads me to look it up and read the context of the passage. Most of the time, I still find myself having to "Google" the passage and get several interpretations of the passage so that I can better understand it. This also allows me the opportunity to see multiple sides to the passage, and lets me decide what I believe the true meaning is. The fact is that I still am no expert on the Bible, but do have a lot better understanding of it, and through it God's word, which makes me a better Christian. Without the technology that I have already learned how to use, this information would still not be available to me.

ReplyDeleteTechnology to me is another way to communicate and reach out to one another and even our Lord. I believe this is true when we ask our question “How can we relate God's Word to making an investment with technology?”. Reaching out to help others is one reason God put us on this earth, also to serve our Lord and abide by the Bible. Technology can help us build our relationship with God. Just last week, I pulled up a on line bible to research a specific verse. The thing I thought was neat, after I found the verse I was looking for, I continued to google other subjects and read about those as well. We can use technology to reach out to others and even help them learn about our God as well. We have different chat lines and those too can be to learn and praise our God. You can also use technology to listen to different speakers on line. All these are many different ways to continue to learn of our Lord as well as praise our Lord and continue our belief to others..
I think I wrote my first response in the wrong spot. But I figured I could write something here too, just in case. I am just getting over a very bad kidney stone. (Thanks God it's finally over.) Anyways, I believe that the internet and technology can be a blessing from God. The internet for example, is something that we can use in a positive way, to teach people around the world about God. People, who might not have the opportunity to hear the gospel and learn about God, can learn anything they could possibly ever want to know. They can look up different translations and learn how to apply different bible passages to their lives. Through this, I believe people can communicate with God and become closer to him. I believe he has given us, his creation the gift of technology. Nothing is put on this earth without his knowledge and approval. God is amazing.
ReplyDeleteHow can we relate God’s Word to discovering new technologies?
ReplyDeleteAny knowledge we have comes from God. We should focus on discovering, supporting, and using all new technologies for the good of others (especially orphans, widows, and the poor). Look for ways to help people.
Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Psalm 34:14 Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.
Psalm 34:18 The LORD is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit.
We can relate God's word to learning new technologies by knowing that any struggles we attempt to take on, God is on our side. And we can learn from these struggles more about our own strengths and build character from these challenges. Hope and God can get us through any challenge and learning more and more will only make us stronger.
ReplyDelete-Adam Burg
Technology has helped spread God's words in many ways. Today many people have copies of the Bible on their phones, PDAs, and E-readers. These digital copies of the Bible also help to spread his word. Instead of having to print hundreds of copies to take into the field with them, missionaries can now take hundreds of SD cards. These cards make it easier and cheaper to distribute and hide copies of the Bible.
ReplyDeleteBy bringing God's word to more people we increase the boundaries of His love. The use of digital copies of the Bible lessens the suffering and trials for missionaries and allows them to reach their chosen fields faster and with less expense.
- Jeremy Peacock -
Technology has opened many doors for people over the years. We are able to shop, balance our checkbooks, catch up with old friends, and yes, spread God's word. My church, St. Rose of Lima, has its own Facebook page. Church bulletins are emailed to people if they are not able to attend church services. We can also email our prayer requests to the priest in order to maintain confidentiality and convenience. I even saw a site online once that allowed you to submit your confession on line (but not with my church)! Many people are unable to attend church for different reasons, but by having the worship service available online allows those people to still enjoy the benefit of belonging to the church.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very valuable tool for people to share God's word. I do, however, believe that attending church is far better. The Eucharist can not be shared online, and neither can the community that is felt in the congregation. I am glad online services are available, but I hope we don't all resort to this medium to worship Him.
-- Pam Dillow
I agree with many of these posts, that we can get the word of God out to so many with new technology. But it also speaks of suffering, and perservering and hope. I feel that we not only get the word out via new technology, but that there has to be a personal meeting of some of these people that we are reaching out to. You can't really bond via computer or texting, you have to have personal meetings. Making these possible can cause suffering, perservering and hope.
ReplyDeleteHow can we relate God's Word to making an investment with technology? I belive we can relate God's Word to making investment with technology. The example I can give is with my church. We use technology to reach others that might not be able to visit and hear the sermon. in person. One can go our web-site and download to M3P ECT ECT the sermon. I was this all the time and when inviting someone to our church. I let me know about the service on-line, ask them to listen and if they like what they hear then the following week they can visit in person. Also the church offers prayers request and questions about the word via email. Our out reach center uses email to get the word srpead on events or mission ect, ect. Besides my church methods; there are many Christian Org and groups that buy needed technology for villages and poor areas as the preach and share the word. Mollie Abney-Einhaus ADM 316 - 01.19.11
ReplyDeleteWe can use technology to reach and to teach.
ReplyDeleteWe can reach people with tech that aren't going to pick up a book, or might not visit our churches on their own.
We can also teach young people with tech and the latest gadgets when that is their preferred way to learn. Most of the youth I interact with are not readers of newspapers or magazines. The way to communicate with them is Twitter, Facebook, or through the video/computer games they play. We have to be on top of it.
Although I realize that there is alot of bad stuff on the internet I have found that facebook has become a great source of prayer. I have been able to reconnect with several people I have met over the years through various churches and church events so when I am in need of prayer all I have to do it send a message to my praying friends. It is also nice to log in and see a word of encouragment or a daily devotion or praise. We can use anything to glorify God.
ReplyDeleteI believe that technology can be a great way for people to connect with their faith and reach out to others. By learning and participating in technology, over the past year I have been able to donate to charities like the Haiti relief effort through texting and online programs. I am also able to each out to people that I have spiritual relationships with both through email, social networking, and our school intranet. Using technology is a great way spread God's Word and keep Him as our focus with people we may not be able to see or talk to on an everyday basis. This technology just allows us new avenues to express ourselves and spread His message.
ReplyDeleteGod gave us all a brain and gave us all the ability to learn. If using technology increases that ability and/or increased our knowledge, we are glorifying God because we are using the tools and abilities that He gave us.
ReplyDeleteKenneth Nugent
"We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." In a similar way, suffering could be interpreted as struggling with a new technology, by our struggles we persevere as we begin learning how to adapt to this technology, and by our perseverance we expand our knowledge. of using the technology. Another way that we we can relate God's word to making an investment in technology is through applications, such as the Holy Bible being on my iPhone. I can at any time during the day seeks Gods word conveniently through my phone.
ReplyDeleteDave DeFazio
Much like people that try to explain away God through nature or science the same will be done with technology. God is the great creator of all things and that includes nature, science or technology. These things can be used to benefit the spread of God’s message of the gift of salvation or they can be used for less than positive things. God uses nature to carry out his will as in the Israelite's exodus from Egypt. He will use technology and us to spread his good word if we allow him.
ReplyDeleteThe first phrase in this passage that jumps out at me is the one about gaining access into grace. There needs to be a vehicle that allows this access to take place and we realize that in the person of the Lord Jesus. Faith in Him alone gives us access to hope and allows us to rejoice in both God's glory as well as in our sufferings.
ReplyDeleteI am reminded of the verse in John 1:1 where we learn that Jesus is the Word of God and it is through Him that we are transformed. Likewise, new technologies are simply tools, but they powerfully open the doors for us to increase in knowledge and gain access to many of life's blessings. The efficiencies that we can realize by become savvy with technology allow us to stay focused and achieve more in less time. Our eyes are opened to parts of the world and concepts that we might never be able to access any other way. New technologies even allow us greater access to God's Word in multiple languages and translations. Additionally, there are a myriad of study tools available online to help us in our journey.
So in a word, I'd say we can relate God's Word to learning new technologies because of the access that they both provide and the access that new technologies allow us to achieve concerning the study of God's Word and its life transforming power.
In reading this, I think about how trying new technologies were to me when I had less experience and technologies were new. In middle school we were programming “turtles” to move on the screen of the computer. Learning to program was incredibly difficult for me. I didn’t touch computers for years after that. In my first college experience I had to familiarize myself again with computers and became more comfortable with them. In my career, I’ve used many different programs and have had the opportunity to assist with program changes. By continuing to work with computers, I’ve found I do have the ability to learn these technologies and can teach them to others and become useful to many people. I’m more likely to try new technologies these days because I have faith that God will give me the strength to move forward. ~Stacey Lewis

ReplyDeleteHe gives us the tools to use to help produce and learn and invest in technology to help expand the world around us. As we learn, it is important to treat your employment and working duties as you would, if you were working for god. So everything that you do in your life should be as if you were doing it for god, not just yourself. Giving us the tools to invest in technology should not be put to waist as he gives us these tools for a reason.
The Bible instructs us to spread the Gospel. What better way then to use the world wide web? It allows us to communicate to people all across the globe regardless of what time it is.
ReplyDeleteGoogle even has a tool that translates the words on a web page into a person's native language. This is amazing and lifts the barriers of spreading the Gospel.
What we learn, we should also teach. Technology can be very helpful, but can also be very harmful. I think we should teach the good things we learn, and use the advancements in technology to only bring good to others. Just think of all of the people that have been reached across the world by portable devices that now take the Bible, in almost any language, to almost any place. - Jennifer Meadows ADM316
ReplyDeleteRecent technology is centered on bringing information to others, IE Facebook. Although technology usually starts out with a mainstream use it can still be used for the kingdom. My dad recently signed up for a Facebook account and began learning how to use it. As a pastor he has been posting about Theology and posting questions to challenge people about their view of God. This shows how technology is a useful tool and how the church and its members can embrace change, transforming it into opportunity for fellowship. The scripture mentions perseverance and an investment in technology always comes with a learning curve. In the same way my dad might have been frustrated with trying to figure out how Facebook worked. His solution was to take a free class showing users how to protect themselves and use all the functionality of Facebook. This shows in perseverance you don’t have to be alone and there is usually help if you look for it.

I believe we are given certain tools to help others learn and grow. These tools are to be used for good positive reasons. With each new technology we must take the important value from it and put it to use in God's word. By using it for these reasons others will learn and grow in the word of God.

We can relate God's word to learning new technologies for many reasons. It can help people in the church to communicate with others either via email or by phone. The church can also use a website to invite others to fellowship with them. It should also be taught to be careful with technology and only to use it for the glory of God.

We can relate learning new technologies to God's word by looking at the scriptures in workshop two. It talks about looking at our struggles as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. As technology grows we must continuously accept our shortcomings and look towards overcoming them. From these struggles we learn preserverance, character, and hope; and these are vital in helping us to evolve and grow as people. Learning new techonolgy will continue to be a struggle with every new invention, but we must remember that there is a higher payoff for us at the end. God's word shows us that hardships are necessary in evolving us in the future of technology and evolving us as people.

I feel it is all in what we use technology for. I remember when the computer was thought to be evil or even Satan! But today if I miss church my Pastors sermon for the day is available online. Also with today’s technology I am able to pay my tithes through direct deposit from my payroll department. I can rejoice in the benefits that technology allows me in honoring my church and the Lord. Through technology I can still fellowship and praise. Through technology we have prayer lines and ministries. Also available through technology is web pages to invite people to worship and social medias that allow us to spread the word of God to others. We can testify of our sufferings and give hope to others in rejoicing and can reach many more because of the advances in technologies.

I think this passage is telling us to not be satisfied with what works for us now, but to persevere and grow individually and as a society. Look to the future to grow and change and adapt to that change. The change will give us all growth and character. Be open to new ideas and accept them, because within the change is a new hope.

Learning anything new is never easy, and takes effort and perseverance. I think that's where they came up with the term "growing pains". Whether it be physical, spiritual, emotional, or personal growth, everything starts with perseverance. You have to have the drive to push on through the difficulty to get the prize. Don't quit before the blessing!
ReplyDeleteI’m not really sure how Peace and Joy relates to most people when learning new technology. I have found that people most generally do suffer at the idea of change. Maybe the lesson here is that things will get better. You will learn and know more and eventually peace will follow. I know that I love change when it comes to technology. I am usually the quickest to jump into a new technology. However, this scripture to me means more about life changes. I know that if I am suffering that God will only let me take so much and he’ll help me shoulder the burdens of change if I let him.

Technology can help us communicate with those which we normaly might have lost touch due to distance or lack of available means to reach out. Having an iphone or a computer can allow me to stay connected with a friend that might have been much harder without these tools at my disposal. A friend of mine was going through a very difficult period of time and needed guidance and prayers. I was able to be with him "virtually" and spiritually because I had access to these devices. The technology is only as useful as I allow it to be.

We can relate God's Word to learning new technologies because I believe this is shedding light on how everything has a purpose. There are so many older people who constantly complain at the advancement with technology but there is a purpose for this. New technologies are supposed to be a way to make things a bit "easier" "simpler" and "convenient." The advancement in technology isn't to make our lives worse but to better them and we have to continue to have patience because everything has a purpose!
ReplyDeleteAnything that we can do to help others with advances in technology should be from the heart. People have to be careful in not letting greed overtake them while in the process. The computer can be used for many wrong things but the good things outway the bad when God's word is taken to heart. Using the computer and advances with smartphones can allow us to help others and keep in touch with those that might need support for something. Dawn Pamer
ReplyDeleteAs many others have said, we can make so many contributions through technology now. For example, the internet has made it easier to make donations to many worthwile charities. I know that after many catastrophes from Katrina to Haiti, many have used the internet to make these contributions. It is also a blessing to be able to connect with long lost friends and family members on sites such as Facebook. I have gotten in touch with so many family members that I would never have seen again and friends as well. By using technology for good, we can make an investment in technology in a way that is pleasing to God.
ReplyDeleteGod wants us to use our talents. It all started with those that have the talent to create the new technologies that we have today. Then it falls on the rest of us to use our talents in using the technologies that have been created to maximize what we can offer to society.

God's word relates to learning new technology because some people refuse to learn God's word the same as people refuse to learn new technology. However if we take the time to learn both of these our lives would be easier, with more understanding. If we take the time to learn God's word we will learn from the past and our futures will be better. Same with technology if we look at the past we will see how much better and easier technology is making our future. God created the people creating technology, he wants us to help each other.
ReplyDeleteWe can relate God's word to learning new technologies the same way we can relate to someone trying or not trying new things. Learning new technologies is something that can be very easy for some, and very difficult for others. If you take someone in their 60's or 70's and tell them to figure out how an Ipod works, they would look at you, be baffled, and throw the thing out. People in their 20's have seen this new technology and are accustomed to it. I agree with Sherrie above how God wants us to work together as a society to make this a better place. This just doesn't relate to to God's word, it also relates to new technology. The people who know how and understand this technology (god's word) need to "share the wealth" and inform/teach others about it!

We can relate God's Word to learning new technologies by knowing that God gave his people the abilities to create such technology. He gave some people the talent that it takes to create new and amazing technologies. Each of us are special in different ways. God watches over us and unfortunatly, some of us do not always do the right thing. Some use the internet and the modern technologies for porn or for hacking into people's lives and taking advantage of what God has done for us. We all need to be Thankful to God for all he has done in our lives! Dawn Hooten
ReplyDeleteTechnology is something that just does not merely happen on its own it is developed through hard work and trial and error. Through this suffering and perseverance will bring new technology that will be born and implemented into society. Just as the scripture reads we can rejoice from our sufferings because the end result is what we want whether that be the development of a new technology or having a better relationship with God and His word. ReplyDeleteAlthough I would never consider myself to be a very spiritual person, I was moved by the passage. When I considered the words, my thoughts were joyful that God has equipped us to live our lives completely. Even the sufferings. Then I considered relating these words to "learning new technologies". To be honest my initial reaction was sort of conflicted...the words were too beautiful to apply to an everyday task such as "learning technology". However I was struck by the realization that the words gave comfort that God has not only gifted us with the ability to successfully manage every situation, but that we are never alone because he has also gifted with the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts.

God has given us the right to decide things for ourselves and he gives us the knowledge to progress through life and be able to create new innovations that help us in our daily lives. With new technology always being introduced, we can relate God's Word, by using technology for good purposes that is beneficial for the majority of the people. Technology can cause people to be able to do bad things like hacking into people's accounts or watching inappropriate things on the internet, but God gives us the freedom to make our own choices and we must persevere through temptation in order to continue living His Words. We should use the technology to try to find cure for diseases and detect possible threats to society, instead of using technology for creating weapons for war or posting stuff on the internet about other people.
ReplyDeleteI like Michaels idea on the knowledge to progress through life, and would like to take it down to a good foundation. I read that today's students are "digital natives", however they develop some skills much better than others. If we fail to teach the basics, like how to access and assess valuable, intelligent information we fail to give them the basic tools to build on their digital lives. Many school aged kids believe that the Google page ranking is 'proof' of value. It is up to the parents and teachers to guide our young people to academic and news databases too. God gave parents the responsibility to teach and guide our youngsters in all areas of life. In the arena of technology we must get them building on a good foundation so we can help them use technology, as Michael mentioned, for curing diseases and detect the threats to society.

This is Barbara Day, and what I get from this is that in making an investment with technology is that through our sufferings we have endured in gaining the knowledge to create the technology we have today, we have produced perseverance. Through this perseverance, we have gained character. Our character has given us hope. This hope that we now have will continue to last. This is the hope that God have us when He took Jesus to be with Him in heaven, as he sent us the comforter which is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will continue to be with us, just as technology will remain with us, as well. As we make an investment in technology, we can rest assured that it will remain consistent, just as the Holy Spirit has remained consistent throughout time, and will continue to do so in the future.
ReplyDeleteDiscovering new technologies is just like God's word. Every time we open His Word, revelation can be given to us. We can discover new things, even with scripture that we have read over and over. God is good! He wants us to discover new things each time we read so we keep coming back for more! Christ wants us to put our whole heart into our new opportunities. Be the best by giving your best. Don't wonder what the past could have been like, instead expand the wonder to what the future will be!
